GIVE BACK THIS THANKSGIVING

We have partnered with Reps & Steps to help us make a difference in the lives of the local Las Vegas community this holiday season. We are conducting a toy drive for the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation, and ask that all participants might consider making a toy donation during the packet pick-up or post-race events.

Not only does Candlelighters need toys and gift cards during the holidays, but they also give out toys year round to kids during hospital visits, their birthday corner (they send out a birthday card to all diagnosed kids and their siblings through their 18th birthday to pick a toy or gift card), clinic/counseling visits, "no more chemo" celebrations, or sometimes "just because - to brighten their day" when they stop by the office to drop off receipts for financial reimbursements.

Candlelighters has 3 wishlists to make it easy for Turkey Trotters to shop, but please know that ANY toy or gift card donations will be greatly appreciated.

Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada (Candlelighters) was chartered in 1978 by two families, each of whom had a child being treated for cancer. With little to no resources to help them navigate the world of childhood cancer, they came together to create a network of support for families affected by the disease. They believed that families could find strength, knowledge, and comfort by banding together during their most difficult times. They wanted to use their experience to lessen the burden of those they knew would follow. Since that time, thousands of children in Nevada have been diagnosed with cancer.

Today, Candlelighters maintains a full-time office with professional staff focusing on three main areas of support: emotionalquality of life, and financial assistance. Candlelighters serves approximately 400 families and more than 1,800 children (both siblings and diagnosed children) throughout the year.

A child diagnosed with cancer being treated in Nevada is the only requirement to become a Candlelighters Family. All programs and services are provided at no cost to the families.
